What to get right
- Start from your hourly cost, not the wage. Tech pay plus burden plus overhead, per billable hour. If you use wages alone, every price looks more profitable than it is.
- Use your own task times. How long the job takes your techs, from past tickets. Not a guess, and not another shop’s book.
- Know markup from margin. A 50% markup is a 33% margin. Set prices for the margin you want.
- Check member prices too. The member discount comes out of your margin. Make sure the discounted price still covers your cost.

How to use it
- Pull a batch of recently closed jobs with sold price, materials, labor hours and other costs.
- Run the job costing prompt to see the margin per job and which ones came in under target.
- Use the real labor and material numbers in the flat-rate price builder, task by task.
- Update your price book, then tell the team with the pricing update prompt.
- Repeat the job costing check every quarter.

Questions shops ask
What is flat-rate pricing in HVAC and plumbing?
A set price per task, quoted before the work starts, instead of billing time and materials. The customer knows the price up front; the shop carries the risk if the job runs long.
How do you calculate a flat rate price?
Parts at your markup, plus labor hours times your hourly cost, priced for your target margin. The flat-rate price builder shows every step of the formula.
Should I buy a flat-rate price book or build my own?
Either can work. A bought book still needs your own labor cost and margin behind it. Building your own takes longer but matches how your techs actually work.
